A Note From the Director’s Desk…

Dear Families and Education Advocates:

It has been such fun seeing families, former employees, and community partners at the events to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Families Together, Inc. over the past year.  Thank you for honoring us with your presence at our celebrations.  Let’s continue to celebrate what is good about the services we enjoy in Kansas, and continue to partner to make them even better.

I hope that you had a fun summer and that you and the children you care so deeply about will have a very successful school year.  One of the best ways to make that happen is to be a true partner with your child’s teacher(s).  Share your expertise about your child with them, so that they will find success working with your child.  Teachers need your insights, your suggestions, and your thanks for their effort on behalf of all the children in their class.  We can’t say “Thank You” too often!

Have you been wondering how you can contribute to the success of Families Together, Inc.?  Here are some suggestions:

Make Families Together, Inc. one of the organizations that you support every month.  (An envelope is provided for you in this newsletter)

Consider applying to be on our Board of Directors (call me for more information).

Volunteer to help at one of the Family Enrichment Weekends this year (see the schedule in this newsletter).

I hope to see many of you at parent weekends, parent/professional conferences, and in our centers this year.  May the 2007-2008 school year be one of the best yet for you and your children!

                                                  Connie

NEW Parent Training and Information Center Grant!!

As many of you know, Families Together, Inc. has been the Parent Training and Information Center for Kansas since 1986.  We were honored to be selected to serve in that capacity for another 5 years.  Our new grant award will begin on Oct. 1, 2007.  Many of the same activities will continue, with additional work in the areas of outreach to underserved communities and groups, and the added use of technology to provide training to communities across the state.  Thank you for your support of our efforts to encourage, educate and empower families to be effective advocates for their sons and daughters with disabilities.
